The United States Census Bureau has released annualized population estimate data for the 2018 year. Transylvania County's 2018 population estimte grew to 34,215, adding 1,128 new residents since 2010. The community's growth resulted in a move from 70 to 69 in the North Carolina county population rankings. In total from 2010-2018, the community's local population grew by + 3.4%. In 2016, economist Tom Tveidt with Syneva Economics delivered a forecast for Transylvania County that closely mirrors the recently released Census figures. Based on the report immigration is likely the primary source for Transylvania County's population growth. While it is expected that the <24 age brackets has and will continue to trend positive the 75-85 year bracket will be responsible for the highest number of new residences. However, it is epected that this age bracket will be followed by the 35-44 age bracket.
