“Did You Know” over 33 manufacturing companies call Transylvania County home? “Did You Know” the local manufacturing sector represents more than 700 direct full-time jobs? “Did You Know” the average wages of those jobs on average are 25% higher than non-manufacturing positions? “Did You Know” that over the past five years employment growth in the manufacturing sector has been responsible for 41.7% of all net new jobs in the county?
One of the common misconceptions locally is that the manufacturing sector has little impact in Transylvania County. The reality is manufacturers in Transylvania County, and more broadly in the United State are like any business sector and are in a continual state of transformation. America is still a leader in the productions of goods, technological innovations and world-class manufacturing processes. While manufacturing in Transylvania County is quite different from how it began during the turn of the century our local cluster of manufacturing businesses are still at the forefront of some truly innovative products that in many circumstances find themselves in the far reaches of the world as well as your local grocery store. Thanks to a grant awarded by the NC Division of Workforce Solutions and in partnership with the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, the Alliance is seizing the opportunity to help increase the awareness of some of the local industrial employers in our community that make incredible products and employee hundreds of skilled workers. Stay turned for more as the Alliance begins a multi-month effort to help our community get to know some of our local industry leaders and the businesses which call Transylvania County home!
