“Did You Know” over 30 manufacturing companies call Transylvania County home? “Did You Know” the local manufacturing sector represents more than 700 direct full-time jobs? “Did You Know” the average wages of those jobs on average are 25% higher than non-manufacturing positions? If you answered YES you are likely in the minority. One of the common misconceptions in the United States is that the manufacturing sector is in an ever state of decline and that other industrialized countries are now largely responsible for the worlds' manufacturing innovations. The reality is U.S. manufacturing, like any business sector is in a continual state of transformation. America is still a leader in the productions of goods, technological innovations and world-class manufacturing processes. While manufacturing in Transylvania County is quite different from how it began during the turn of the century our local cluster of manufacturing businesses are still at the forefront of some truly innovative products that in many circumstances find themselves in the far reaches of the world. Thanks to a grant awarded by the NC Division of Workforce Solutions and in partnership with the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, the Alliance is seizing the opportunity to help increase the awareness of some of the local industrial employers in our community that make incredible products and employee hundreds of skilled workers.
